One thing I didn’t understand was why Idris Elba had to explain to her “my wife didn’t die the way you think she died”? Not to come off as verysmart, but I thought it was pretty obvious from the voicemail that his wife had died (“this is something you cannot control”). It was predictable, and I know some people might have some problems with the fact that they ended up together or how it was cliched, but I came into the movie having accepted that there was going to be some cheese (although surprisingly minimal, IMO). It’s definitely not a masterpiece or anything close, but I thought Idris Elba and Kate Winslet had great chemistry between them, which was definitely my favorite aspect of the movie (also the dog). Definitely glad I got to see this on the big screen (thanks MoviePass!). I could see The Mountain Between Us working during, say, a large gathering of drunk friends who spend much of the movie screaming, Take off your shirt, Idris but as it is intended, it is a spectacular failure, a complete waste of Elba and Winslet, and a shoddy embarrassment to both of their careers. Nevertheless, I found the movie enjoyable and the scenery was amazing. I’m assuming most people are going to see Blade Runner 2049 tonight/this weekend, so it’s understandable. If there was indeed a thread for this, I apologize, but I did search the subreddit (“Official Discussion: The Mountain Between Us”) and got no results. I didn’t see a discussion thread for this movie and it premiered tonight.
